Watch This Russian KA-52 Attack Chopper Accidentally Fire Rockets at Exercise Observers

Video footage has leaked on social media showing a Russian Ka-52 Alligator attack helicopter accidentally firing rockets at observers during a training exercise, reportedly part of the larger ZAPAD 2017 events happening along the country’s western borders.

During the Belarusian-Russian exercises Zapad-2017 at the Lugsky training ground in the Leningrad Region, a Ka-52 attack helicopter spontaneously launched an unguided missile. As a result of the incident, three people were injured, as well as two cars. The Ka-52 is a Russian combat attack helicopter designed to destroy enemy personnel and equipment on the battlefield.

It is equipped with the Samshit-E optoelectronic system, which allows you to select a target. “Samshit-E” consists of a thermal imager, laser designator and direction finder of the laser beam. The aircraft is also equipped with the Arbalet-52 radar, one of the channels of which is used to search for ground targets and allows the helicopter to maneuver at low altitudes at high speed. Depending on the received combat mission, the helicopter is equipped with various types of weapons at the suspension points: six NURS blocks, cannon containers, R-73 and Igla-V missiles.

The helicopter is armed with a 30-mm movable gun. In total, the helicopter can take on board 2000 kg of various missiles and bombs.
