More than 63 million abortions are estimated to have taken place in the U.S. since the Supreme Court’s 1973 Roe v. Wade ruling that granted federal protections to women seeking to terminate their pregnancies, according to one analysis.
The National Right to Life Committee (NRLC), the nation’s oldest pro-life organization, estimates that 63,459,781 abortions have taken place since 1973. That estimate was gathered by tracking data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the Guttmacher Institute, which previously served as a research arm of the nation’s preeminent abortion provider, Planned Parenthood.
A draft opinion written by Justice Samuel Alito that would overturn Roe v. Wade and return the issue of abortion to individual states was leaked to Politico on Monday.
“We hold that Roe and Casey must be overruled,” Alito wrote in a February draft opinion for the case Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization. “It is time to heed the Constitution and return the issue of abortion to the people’s elected representatives.”
The recently updated data from the NRLC states that for every 1,000 live births, there are 195 abortions. That number, however, is lower than the 196.3 in 1973, Roe’s first year in effect.
“In its twin Roe v. Wade and Doe v. Bolton decisions, which were handed down on Jan. 22, 1973, the court legalized abortion for any reason,” said NRLC President Carol Tobias. “Tragically, 49 years later, National Right to Life estimates that more than 63 million unborn children have lost their lives as a result of those decisions.”
Much of the debate surrounding abortion has tended toward discussions about rights and when life begins. Among varying ideas advanced by the left, former Planned Parenthood CEO Cecile Richards has argued that “there’s no specific moment when life begins” and that hers began when her children were born.

According to the U.S. National Library of Medicine, an unborn baby’s toes can be seen and its lungs, ears, eyes, arms and legs start to form before the end of the first trimester. Between nine and 12 weeks after conception, a baby’s face becomes well-formed, genitals appear, and nails appear on the fingers and toes.
“Through our determination to protect mothers and their children, we continue to see evidence that our efforts to educate our nation about the unborn child’s humanity, and our efforts to enact protective pro-life legislation, are having a tremendous impact in moving our nation away from Roe and Doe’s deadly legacy,” Tobias said.
Even more alarming, what many in the mainstream press don’t want the minority communities to know is that more than 20 million Black babies have been aborted since 1973.
Non-Hispanic Black women have a significantly higher abortion rate (23.8 per 1000 women of reproductive age) than that of Non-Hispanic Whites (6.6) and Hispanics (11.7).
38.4% of all reported abortions in the U.S. in 2019 were performed on Black women, however, only about 12.4% of the total population is black.
Afro-Americans are no longer the nation’s largest minority group. Today, Hispanics have outpaced Blacks in population growth.
For every 1,000 live births, non-Hispanic Black women had 386 abortions. Non-Hispanic White women had 117 abortions/1,000 live births.
Abortions among Black women are so high that many Pro-Life activists and advocates have concluded that “Black genocide” is occurring. And I have to agree. As a half-Black man from a lower middle class-income background and having lived in the ghetto — that is, segregated high crime low-income areas with large parentages of Afro-Americans — I have seen firsthand the disparate number of Planned Parenthood clinics located in these areas.
It is not coincidental that when one walks into one of these clinics on any given day that you would immediately notice that many of the patients are black women.

While I try not to prescribe to actual conspiracy theories, it is undisputed that there is a strong connection between the Eugenics movement and abortions of Black babies. This was, and to many myself included still is, a clear purpose — whether publicly stated or not — of Planned Parenthood which was founded by known racist and Eugenics campion Margaret Singer.
Singer wanted to use Planned Parenthood — and abortions and sterilization before the invention of the birth control pill — as a means of decreasing and maintaining Black populations. Government and others have sought to control the Black population and impede on our reproductive freedoms — freedoms that everyone else enjoys, especially Whites — since our ancestors were brought here on slave ships.
Several states engaged in forced and/or sterilizing coerced well into the 20th century— including Georgia, North Carolina, Virginia, California and Alabama — poor overwhelmingly Afro-American teens and you women. It wasn’t until the mid-to-late seventies that the Eugenics and forced sterilization programs (mostly) ended.
These programs stopped in large part due to and/or response to the Relf v. Weinberger case wherein Mary Alice and Minnie Relf, poor Afro-American sisters from Alabama, were sterilized at the ages of 14 and 12. Their mother, who was illiterate, had signed an “X” on a piece of paper she believed gave permission for her daughters, who were both mentally disabled, to receive birth control shots.

Used as a means of controlling “undesirable” populations — immigrants, people of color, poor people, unmarried mothers, the disabled, the mentally ill — federally-funded sterilization programs took place in 32 states throughout the 20th century.”

It was this case brought in 1974 which revealed that around 100,000 to 150,000 poor people, again overwhelmingly Black, were being sterilized annually under federally-funded Eugenics programs. But for those of you who believe that Eugenics and forced sterilization completely ended in the seventies you would be incorrect.
In a recent case, California prisons authorized sterilizations of nearly 150 female inmates between 2006 and 2010, most of whom are Black and Latino. This article from the Center for Investigative reporting reveals how the state paid doctors $147,460 to perform tubal ligations that former inmates say were done under coercion.
And according to data revealed in 2016, more Black babies were killed by abortion than were born in New York City. The data also shows that in 2016, Black abortions accounted for nearly 40 percent (38.7%) of all abortions in NYC.
These alarming statistics reveal how abortion is decimating the Black community and is also hurting other minority groups. Out of 60,000 (59,854) total abortions reported in NYC, nearly 67 percent (66.7%) were committed on minority Black (23,209) and Hispanic women (16,718) leaving some to speculate that there is a targeted eugenics agenda at work.

The Reality of the Situation
Abortion in America has contributed to the greatest decline in Black population since the first Black slaves arrived in the Americas in the 1600s. According to U.S. census data, there were 18,871,831 Black American citizens in 1960. Since Roe v. Wade legalized abortion in 1973, abortion has killed an estimated 20 million Black babies — more than the entire Black population of 1960.
How does this benefit the Black community?
Claims that the pro-life community is a bunch of white supremacists are completely baseless. Such calumny cannot erase the truth that abortion has been used to control the Black birth rate, and Planned Parenthood has led that charge. Pro-life leaders, both Black and White, have linked arms with the grassroots movement, and we are advancing the protection of black unborn babies and their mothers.
Only in a world of twisted logic could organizations and individuals working tirelessly to save Black lives from abortion be called “racist” for their efforts. Only in a world of twisted logic can it be acceptable for legislators to use the race of those killed to justify their destruction.
We reject both ideas. Instead, we stand with the spirit of Douglass, who called the Declaration of Independence, with its affirmation of the right to life and application to “all men,” the “ring-bolt to the chain of [our] nation’s destiny.”
As Douglass said, “The principles contained in that instrument are saving principles. Stand by those principles, be true to them on all occasions, in all places, against all foes, and at whatever cost.”
